Creating a project

Creating a project

To create a new project:

  1. Go to Evo Researcher.

  2. Select New project from the left-hand navigation.

  3. Give your project a name and, optionally, a description.

  4. Configure the project using the tabs described below.

Project tabs

Once inside a project, you will find several tabs for managing its configuration.

Chats

This is where your conversations live. Each chat within a project shares the same uploaded files, connectors, and skills, so the AI always has the full project context available. You can start as many conversations as you need within a single project.

Uploads

Upload files to make them available to every conversation in the project. The AI can search across uploaded files throughout the project's lifetime.

📌 Note: There is a difference between uploads, attachments, and artifacts:

  • An upload is a file you add to the project. The AI can reference it in any conversation.

  • An attachment is a file you drop into a single chat message. It is only available for that message and does not persist.

  • An artifact is something the AI has created and saved for you. It lives in the Artifacts tab and stays with the project.

Artifacts

Artifacts are outputs the AI generates and saves for you, such as reports, summaries, presentations, and spreadsheets. They live in the Artifacts tab, can be downloaded, and remain with the project.

Researcher can generate the following artifact types:

  • HTML pages.

  • Markdown documents.

  • PDFs.

  • Excel spreadsheets.

  • PowerPoint presentations.

  • Charts.

📌 Note: Word (.docx) is not currently supported. Once an artifact is created, its type is fixed. If you need the same content in a different format, ask the AI to produce it again as a different type.

Each artifact gives you the following options:

  • Copy — copies the content ready to paste into Outlook, Word, or similar, preserving formatting.

  • Download — saves the artifact to your device in its native format.

  • Export as PDF — for documents and web pages, converts the artifact to PDF and downloads it.

  • Delete — removes the artifact from the project.

Instructions

Instructions are per-project guidance you write directly into the project. Use this tab to tell the AI how it should behave within this project — for example, the tone to use, the format to follow, or the context it should always keep in mind.

Keep instructions concise and focused on behaviour rather than content. Every word in the instructions is included in every request made within the project.

Skills

Skills are reusable instruction blocks that shape how the AI responds for specific types of work. You can attach skills published by your organisation's admin to any project.

📌 Note: Users can create personal skills for their own use. Only organisation admins can publish skills to the organisation library or create project templates.

Connectors

⚠️ Connectors are not available as part of the Evo Standard offering. This functionality requires an Advanced or higher subscription.

Connectors give the AI access to live data from other systems. Researcher supports four types of connector:

  • Evo product connectors — live data from other Access products.

  • Third-party connectors — for example, OneDrive via OAuth.

  • Agent Builder agents — agents built in the Evo Assistant Builder.

  • Custom MCP servers — for advanced integrations.

The specific connectors available depend on your region and which products your organisation has enabled. Check the Connectors tab in your project to see what is available to you.

📌 Note: Only add connectors the project actually needs. Every connected tool's schema is loaded into the context on every request, whether it is used or not. This can affect performance and token usage.

Collaborators

⚠️ Collaborators are not available as part of the Evo Standard offering. This functionality requires an Advanced or higher subscription.

You can invite other users to work with you on a project. Collaborators share the same uploaded files, connectors, skills, and artifacts, making it straightforward to work on shared research or produce outputs together.

📌 Note: If you lose connection mid-session in a project, the current chat state or artifact may not be preserved. This is a known limitation.

Project templates

⚠️ Project templates are not available as part of the Evo Standard offering. This functionality requires an Advanced or higher subscription.

Templates are full project blueprints that carry instructions, uploads, connectors, and actions. They allow you to set up a consistent starting point for recurring types of work without having to configure each project from scratch.

Organisation admins can create and publish templates for the whole organisation. Users cannot create templates.

📌 Note: The typical progression is to write guidance in the Instructions tab for one project, publish it as a skill once you are using it repeatedly, and fold it into a template if the workflow also requires the same uploads and connectors every time.
